Gresham DUII and East County Court Information

I just got arrested for an DUII charge in the City of Gresham.  What happens now?

For general information on Oregon DUI arrests please consult the main page of the Oregon DUI Guide and the DUII Diversion Guide

If you were arrested in Gresham, Oregon you were either given a citation to appear at the East County (Gresham) courthouse or booked into the Multnomah County Jail.  If you were booked into jail you most likely were given a release agreement directing you to appear in Courtroom 4 of the Justice Center ( known as JC4 located at 1120 SW Third Avenue) the first or second business day after your arrest.

If you were arrested for a felony DUII or other serious charge you may be held in custody at least through your first court appearance (and perhaps longer).  Gresham court does not handle felony offenses.

You must attend your court appearance or a bench warrant will be issued for your arrest.  In Multnomah County, if you hire an attorney before your initial court appearance (arraignment), you may be able to absent yourself from this appearance if (1) your most serious charge is a misdemeanor.  Speak to an attorney for more information.

Where am I supposed to appear for court?

Read your paperwork.  Either your citation or your release agreement will tell you where to appear for your first court date.  Most Gresham DUII arraignments are held at the Justice Center (1120 SW Third Avenue in Portland, Oregon).  There are four courtrooms in this building.  DUII arraignments are typically held in Courtroom 4 (JC4) or Courtroom 3 (JC3).   [Occasionally, persons are cited to appear in the East County Courthouse which is located at 18480 SE Stark Street in Gresham Oregon.]

Show up on time, and check in at the window before entering the courtroom.

Will all my court appearances be held in this building?

Maybe.  Some Gresham cases are sent to the East County (Gresham) Courthouse for resolution in the City of Gresham.  Some cases are resolved at a later date in the main Multnomah County Courthouse (1021 SW Fourth Avenue).

Are there any sentencing options that are unique to Gresham / Multnomah County?

Multnomah County has sometimes allows jail to be served on weekends.  Gresham and Multnomah County no longer offer work release or a "forest camp" option.

Keep in mind that DUII is a state crime.  While each court treats these charges in their own way, the DUII statutes and mandatory penalties such as license suspensions are the same statewide.
